BT U-turns on decision to remove village's 'lifeline' telephone box

BT has U-turned on plans to remove a village telephone box.
Tim Roca, MP for Macclesfield, has confirmed that BT has reversed its decision to remove a telephone box in Wildboarclough, near the Old Post Office.
This comes following concerns from residents about phone coverage in the area.
Mr Roca said: "Thank you to all constituents who contacted me about the proposed removal of the telephone box in Wildboarclough.
"I am pleased to report that, following my intervention, BT has reversed its decision to remove it."
He added: "BT had initially judged the area to have sufficient mobile phone coverage. However, I made clear that this assessment does not reflect the experience of local residents and visitors.
"In rural areas, public phone boxes remain an important lifeline, particularly in emergencies.
"I also raised concerns about the consultation process regarding the proposed removal, which appeared inadequate from the outset.
"I have asked BT to ensure that I am notified of any future consultations of this kind in my constituency so that I can keep residents fully informed."
