A community campaign to get a defibrillator into a Macclesfield parish is gaining traction.

A crowdfunding page has been set up to get the piece of life-saving kit at a multi-purpose venue on Kerridge's Clarke Lane, near Bollington.

So far, they have raised £665 of their £2000 goal to pay for the state-of-the-art defibrillator.

Organiser Keith Hand said the following: "Kerridge Cricket Club, Kerridge Bowling Club and Macclesfield Occasionals Cricket Team are collaborating to fund the purchase of and siting of the Defibrillator on the Cricket Club Pavillion."

"The sport playing area takes in the cricket ground, the bowling green and a football pitch - unsurprisingly the playing area is regularly in use for sporting events.

"In addition, there is an unofficial path through the grounds that is used daily by numerous walkers. To the best of our knowledge there are no other Defibrillator available in the immediate locality."

Those among the donators include Tytherington's Spar convenience store, which have pledged a whopping £100.000, and are the current top donor of the 16 who have pledged.

Should the campaign meet the goal, it would coincide with the 100th anniversary of Kerridge Cricket Club in 2023.

According to the National Institute for Health Care and Research, the UK survival rate for cardiac arrest is around 8%, but bystander assistance through cardiopulmonary resuscitation and attaching a defibrillator increased it to 32%.

Survival rates were even higher for people who had a rhythm that could be treated by a shock from the defibrillator, at 53%.

It would become Kerridge's second defibrillator alongside the current one at Bulls Head, 2 Oak Lane, Kerridge, Cheshire, SK10 5BD. (Source)
