A grassroots sports club in Macclesfield will be hosting a delicious, inclusive festival later this month.

Macclesfield Cricket Club, of Victoria Road, will be hosting a festival celebrating Indian culture on Friday August 18.

Software engineer and event organiser Radha Ramachandran, explained what the new event is all about:

"We have had lots of new South Indians joining the club recently", he said.

"So we felt compelled to do something to make them feel welcome. And this is a festival for everyone in the community.

"This is a very last minute idea. People feared we wouldn't have time to plan stuff, but somehow we have all come together and persevered.

"We'll have lots of volunteers who are singing and dancing. A DJ, and food can be included with your ticket price as well.

"In addition, we have local stall holders like Macclesfield's Priyanka Sharma of Macclesfield's My Indian Kitchen, Indian grocers, and a henna tattoo stall."

The stalls and club bar will be open from 5:30pm, followed by singing and dancing at 6pm. There's then a meal, and another chance on the dance floor as the night ends.

Thanks to sponsors from businesses like like MaccMotors, the ticket prices have been kept low, which will be greatly appreciated by the community given the ongoing cost of living crisis.

"We're actually still looking for sponsors to see if we can reduce the price even further. If you are interested in sponsoring, please email me at [email protected]," added Radha.

"The money we raise on the tickets will cover the cost of food, the cost of everyone else has kindly been covered by our sponsors."

Tickets start from £5, and £10 with a meal included. A family of four can go for £25, and children under three go for free.

Radha has kindly offered Macclesfield Nub News readers a discount on tickets, by using the code 'NUBNEWS' at checkout you can get a 25% discount.

But please note, this offer expires TODAY (August 7) at 11:59pm.

"Anyone can come along. You can get to come and know the club," revealed Radha.

The event is at Victoria Rd, Macclesfield SK10 3PL.

"I believe sport is a great way to mix people, because when you cheer for your team, you don't really notice the colour of their skin. Which is a great way to bring people together.

"That's the main reason we wanted to do this with the Cricket Club."

The 123-year-old sporting institution has a long-history with Asian players, with some even going on to bigger teams, but an event of this kind has never been held before.

"I've been a part of the club since 2017, but not a great player," he joked.

"This year I'm a captain of the Sunday Second team. We have seven teams now."
