A Macclesfield woman who started selling meals cooked in her own kitchen is celebrating one year in business.

Rural Macclesfield resident Priyanka Sharma moved to our area one year ago.

When she came here, she couldn't find food which reminded her of home in the eastern part of India.

So she decided to take matters into her own hands and cook some food of her own.

There's a special offer on for her first anniversary.

She then put a post out on the community social network Nextdoor saying if anyone wanted any of the surplus meals she cooked, with no intentions to start a business.

One year later, she has a bustling, registered business with the best food hygiene rating possible.

"I have a passion for cooking", said Priyanka.

"I always wanted to cook for others but in Indian there was a shop at every corner. But over here I was struggling to find something authentic to eat, so started doing so here from home.

"I looked at the prices other menus of similar businesses and offered a competitive price with a generous quantity.

"Other than my husband who helps deliver, it is just me who runs it from home, which is why it is called My Indian Kitchen.

"It costs £2 to deliver in Macclesfield, and outside it is £3-£5 to deliver be it Bollington, Prestbury or Wilmslow.

Her current menu, which changes reguarly.

"It doesn't feel like it has been a year since I started. I never had any plan, I have never done any business before, my background is in marketing and HR."

As she can't cook hundreds of meals every week, she has a small but rotational menu, and listens to customer feedback. So if your Indian favourite isn't on her menu now, it very well may be in the near future.

On top of her anniversary-celebrating business, Priyanka works five days a week at a Macclesfield school and is a mother-of-two.

You can order throughout the week, but her majority of deliveries come through at weekends. As well as delivery, you can also collect.

She quite regularly gets party orders, with as many as 30 diners in one order.

"I'm really enjoying it and glad that the community do too", added Priyanka.

"In the future, I would like to get some branding for my business.

"I would like to serve some corporate clients. So if you have an office at lunchtime and would like to try out my food, please reach out.

"I would also like to extend my reach in the community, maybe link up more with the sports clubs.

"I love Macclesfield. We have come from a very busy place, so in comparison we like that it is calm. The people are very friendly and helpful, which I have seen from starting this business. And I have been very grateful for their encouraging feedback as well. "

To celebrate the one year anniversary, there will be a complimentary surprise dish for any order over £15. But hurry, this celebratory offer only lasts for the month of June.
