A property that has caused residents of a Macclesfield neighbourhood months of distress has been shut down by officers following the securing of a closure order.

The closure order for the address on Pinfold Street, Macclesfield, was granted at Crewe Magistrates' Court earlier today.

The order, which will run for 3 months, is a direct result of officers responding to the concerns of residents regarding the behaviour of the occupants whose activity included anti-social behaviour and drug related activity.

The occupants, a 54-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, created a sense of panic amongst the community, with residents hesitant to contact police through fear of retaliation.

Officers from Macclesfield Beat Team worked with local residents and to encourage them to come forward and provide evidence against their disruptive neighbours.

It was this example of excellent community engagement between officers and those who lived in the area that lead to the three-month order being secured.

The occupants have since been ordered to leave the property and find alternative accommodation, with all windows and doors being boarded up for a period of three months.

Anyone who enters the address during that time will be committing a criminal offence and could be arrested.

Sergeant Matt Bassirat of Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said:

"The behaviour around the Pinfold Street property is totally unacceptable and I know that residents will be greatly relieved to hear the news today.

"The residents have been incredibly supportive and are extremely grateful for the closure – without them we would not have secured this result that we have today.

"As always, we can't do this without the support of the communities we serve and I would urge anyone who has concerns about ASB related issues to please report it to us and we will do the rest."

Anyone with concerns about anti-social or suspicious behaviour in their area is asked to report it to Cheshire Police via the Cheshire Police website or call 101.
