Council address 'frustrating' half-term roadworks in Macclesfield
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 21st Feb 2026
'Frustrating' roadworks in Macclesfield should be finished by the end of half-term.
Park Lane, near Macclesfield College, and Manchester Road in Tytherington have both been shut to motorists in recent days as Cheshire East Council carries out improvement works while the schools are on holiday.
Coupled with the ongoing works taking place on the Silk Road, this has caused a fair amount of disruption with queues of traffic building in every corner of the town.
Thankfully, all of the work should be complete just in time as children return to school.
A council spokesperson said: "We know how frustrating roadworks can be — we drive these same roads too, so we understand the disruption they can cause. All works are carefully planned to minimise impact wherever possible.
"The carriageway improvement works on Manchester Road and Park Lane have taken place this week during the school holidays due to the proximity of nearby schools, and the main works will be completed this evening.
"We will return to complete the lining works at both locations on Monday evening, which have been delayed due to Friday's heavy rainfall.
"The A523 Silk Road improvement works were delayed due to last week's poor weather. The overnight closures will continue until Sunday morning. The road remains open during the day, with a single lane closure in place.
"The works will be completed by the end of the weekend and then the road fully re-opened to traffic."
