'End of an era' - Bollington's only post office to shut within weeks
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 24th Jul 2026
Bollington's only post office is just weeks away from closing for good.
West Bollington Post Office on Wellington Road will cease trading on Tuesday, August 18.
This comes after the current postmaster, Anthony, handed in his resignation earlier this year.
The Mayor of Bollington, councillor Dickie Fletcher, said: "The end of an era - very sorry to lose West Bollington Post Office which closes its doors for the final time on Tuesday, August 18.
"Tony and Sue have been our postmaster stalwarts for over 18 years, providing residents with local services that will be sorely missed.
"I wish them all the best, especially to Sue who is recovering from illness."
The impending closure of West Bollington Post Office was first confirmed earlier this year.
Initially scheduled to shut in June, the closing date was later pushed back to August.
Speaking back in April, a Post Office spokesperson said: "We have recently received the resignation from the postmaster for West Bollington who has decided to retire.
"We want to thank him for 18 years of loyal service to this community.
"We are now finalising the date for the branch closure this summer and we will review Post Office service provision in the area.
"Alternative branches in the area are at Tytherington, Prestbury and Hurdsfield."
