A Macclesfield man who spat on police and made homophobic comments has appeared in court.

Oliver Fury, of Howe Street, was sentenced at Chester Magistrates Court on Thursday (July 17) after pleading guilty to two charges of assaulting an officer in the execution of their duty.

The 42-year-old also admitted to a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

This follows an incident on Black Road in Macclesfield on Tuesday (July 15) at around 9.40pm.

Cheshire Police attended the scene after receiving reports of a male 'acting erratically'.

Upon arrival, officers found Fury on the ground being restrained by members of his family and a couple of residents on the street.

"Fury was being abusive and refusing to calm down," said a spokesperson for Cheshire Police.

"He was extremely intoxicated, and when officers attended, he was abusive towards them."

At 9.49pm, Fury was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4A Public Order offence, following which he was again abusive.

During this incident, Fury also spat towards a man present but missed, instead connecting with two officers' arms.

He was subsequently further arrested for two police assaults

At court on Thursday, Fury was ordered to pay £50 in compensation to both of the officers along with a £400 fine.

The court records state his offending was aggravated due to homophobic comments being made.

Fury will also have to pay costs of £85 and a £160 surcharge.
