Female powerlifters from Macclesfield to raise funds for local school
An upcoming women's sporting competition will raise funds for a school in Macclesfield.
Vikki Thomas Personal Training will host a powerlifting competition at her central Macclesfield gym for a good cause.
The event is in aid of Park Lane School, as Vikki has a child that goes there.
The contest will begin at October 14 at 9:30am. And while the public cannot attend, there is also a raffle with big prizes to giveaway to help raise more money.
"I run lots of women's and weights groups," said Vikki.
"So as a bit of a motivation for them, I thought I would create an in-house event, and to spur them on more, we'd do it for charity.
"It is quite a big challenge for a lot of the females taking part. They are going to be maxing out on squat lifts and deadlifts.
"So to make it an even bigger thing, I thought why not do it for charity?
"Park Lane School is closed to my heart, because my little boy comes here.
"He's currently aged 13 and in Bollin Class."
Vikki's son has been going to the school for eight years, so knows the amazing work they do.
"It is the first thing I have done for charity as Vikki Thomas Personal Training", added Vikki.
"I wanted to do something that would give back to the local community.
"There is 23 ladies in total taking part, and I will referee.
"Each competitors pays £10 to take part, and all that will go straight to Park Lane."
So by default, £230 has been raised so far.
There is also a separate crowdfunding page, which you can donate to on this link.
Furthermore, there is a tombola with prizes to give away.
Businesses in Macclesfield to have donated prizes includes Studio 85 Hairdressers, Macclesfield Chiropractor, Beauty by Ange, Sutton & Co, and Honest Crust.
No. 74 Deli and My Prep Pal Bollington have also donated a gift voucher.
It is £1 a strip to enter, just message Vikki to take part.
"The local businesses who have donated to the raffle have been amazing," added Vikki.
"I want to thank everybody as the support has been outstanding.
"Park Lane is a cause close to my heart with my son Stanley, they need a lot of equipment, there is a lot of children that have complex needs here.
"It means the world to Park Lane, and I know it means the world to parents and carers have children that attend Park Lane."
"I also did a separate raffle for my members only to raise more funds."
Emma Shaw, who works at the School, is grateful to Vikki and her powerlifters for their support.
"Park Lane Special School is a local school in Macclesfield for pupils aged 2-19, who have a range of severe learning, physical, sensory and communication difficulties," said Emma.
"The school provides the pupils with not only a range of educational opportunities, but a wholistic personalised approach to communication, social, emotional, and wellbeing development, and unfortunately this does require a range of specialist equipment that comes with a high cost.
"We really appreciate the work of Friends of Park Lane Special School our charity and other fundraisers to supply this equipment for the benefit of our children."
