Football will help support two worthy causes.

The Spinners Arms in Bollington will stage its third annual Jumpers for Goalposts event next month.

In doing so they will raise money for two charities close to the pub's heart - Space4Autism and the Silklife Foodbank.

Manager Alex Knight said: "These places are run by volunteers from the goodness of their hearts, so they need all the help they can get.

"I did a short stint volunteering with Silklife Foodbank and it instantly struck a chord with me.

"Dan Blackman, who runs the foodbank, has such infectious passion.

"The stories he tells are heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measures.

"Meanwhile, Space4Autism is a charity that is very close to the pub's heart.

"We have a member of staff who is heavily involved with the charity, as one of her children uses their facilities."

Alex has been working at the Spinners Arms for seven years.

It was around two years ago that the pub really decided to push their charity fundraising events.

Since October 2023, they have raised over £10,000 for Space4Autism and roughly £5,000 for Silklife Foodbank.

"That's down to the generosity of the customers," Alex said.

"I can do my best Bob Geldof impression and say give me all your money but the generosity of our customers is insane.

"It's amazing how much they are prepared to give."

This will be the third time they have put on the Jumpers for Goalposts event, which was started by their customers.

Alex said: "The idea came about so organically.

"We have an ex-professional footballer who occasionally drinks in here.

"One of our regulars just asked him if he'd go for a kickabout down the park and it all grew from there!"

Jumpers for Goalposts will take place at Bollington Recreation Ground on Sunday, September 7.

As well as football, the family-friendly event will feature face painting, an auction and a raffle, with previous prizes including a holiday in Tenerife.

Alex added: "This is not just another match, it's an opportunity to come together as a community and make a difference.

"Whether you're a player, a supporter, or just looking for a fun day out, we invite you to be part of this incredible event."
