Five jobs lost as Virgin Money Macclesfield to close

Five jobs are out of Macclesfield, as Virgin Money will close their doors.

The bank at 15 Market Place will shut early next year in January.

It is part of a nationwide culling of 31 stores.

The company cited "changing customer demand" for the closure.

A spokesperson for Virgin Money said: "We currently have 5 colleagues based in the Macclesfield store."

"It is our intention to find alternative roles for colleagues wherever possible, either within other stores locally or elsewhere in the Group.

"However, some colleagues will be at risk of redundancy.

"It is expected that the changes will result in a reduction of around 112 full time equivalent roles across the UK."

This store will close permanently at 2pm on 12 January 2022.

Until then, here are the opening times for the Macclesfield premises.

Monday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Tuesday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Wednesday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Thursday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Friday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Saturday Closed

Sunday Closed

The decision to close a Virgin Money store is based on a number of factors, including location, usage, proximity to alternative stores and lease arrangements.

While their services will still be available in Macclesfield Post Office on 51 Mill Street, the nearest Virgin Money store to Macclesfield will now be in Stockport.

The Stockport site is located on 34 Prince's St, Stockport SK1 1RE, a 16 mile drive from the closing Macc facility.

Virgin Money customers can use Macclesfield Post Offices for day"to-day banking, including cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque deposits and balance enquiries, as well as coin exchange.

Fergus Murphy, Group Customer Experience Director at Virgin Money said: "As our customers change the way they want to bank with us and conduct fewer transactions in-store, we must continue to evolve the role of our stores into places where we showcase our products and bring our digital services to life."

Written notification will be sent to customers and posters will be displayed in each affected store at least 12 weeks before they close, providing details on the alternative ways customers can continue to manage their accounts, including nearest alternative stores, ATMs and Post Office counters.

A range of support services will be available at their Macc building prior to store closures, including digital workshops to help customers become more comfortable with digital banking.

Following these changes, Virgin Money will have a network of 131 stores across the UK.
