A former bank is going under the hammer.

The building most recently home to Lloyds has been listed for auction by Savills estate agents.

With a guide price of £525,000, 64-66 Mill Street is described as an 'asset management or development opportunity'.

The listing adds that it will be 'of interest to owner occupiers, investors and developers'.

Spread across three floors, the property is approximately 5,053 square feet in size.

It will be sold at an auction starting at 9am on Wednesday, March 19.

The closure of the Macclesfield bank was first announced last summer, with Lloyds stating this was due to declining footfall.

"As many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app or online, visits to our Macclesfield branch have fallen over recent years," a spokesperson said.

"83 per cent of our personal customers already use other ways of banking, such as mobile, internet or phone banking, as well as other branches."

Prior to the closure, Macclesfield MP Tim Roca penned a letter of concern, calling for Lloyds to reverse its decision.

He said: "Losing another bank from our community will have a detrimental impact on so many residents and businesses.

"As the cost of living still bears down on a lot of my constituents, banks should be improving and investing in access to services, not withdrawing them from our local high streets and town centres.

"I have reservations about the proposed Community Banker services which will see a significant reduction in staff and services compared to what we have available in Macclesfield at present."

Despite these concerns, Lloyds shut its Macclesfield branch for good on January 28, 2025.
