Former staple of Macclesfield's community calendar makes triumphant return

A much-loved community event has made its long-awaited return to Macclesfield.
Hundreds of people took part in the renewed Beating the Bounds on Sunday (September 21), raising vital funds for six local charities.
The family-friendly walking event, which was a staple of the Macclesfield calendar in the 1980s, was revied by Verity Shuttleworth in memory of her late father, Richard Lea.
Speaking after, Verity said: "Beating the Bounds was a cherished part of my childhood and to see so many people come together yesterday in my father's memory was incredibly moving.
"This wasn't just about honouring tradition, it was about supporting local charities that make a real difference to people's lives."

Beating the Bounds saw walkers of all ages follow the path of Macclesfield's historic boundaries, completing either a 13km or 35km route.
In doing so, they raised money for six local causes - Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Mia Jennings, East Cheshire Hospice, Just Drop In, Space4autism, Team Hasler MND and West Warriors MND.
The total amount raised will be announced soon.
Verity and the organising team are hoping to establish Beating the Bounds as a permanent fixture in Macclesfield's community calendar once again.

Verity said: "It was an unforgettable day.
"The sun shone, the countryside looked stunning and the smiles, camaraderie and support were just incredible.
"None of this would have been possible without our headline sponsor Bollington Brewery, our supporting sponsors, my fantastic co-organisers and the brilliant teams from Macclesfield Round Table and Sutton Scouts.
"A heartfelt thank you also goes to our six wonderful charities and our volunteers – from marshals and first aiders to bakers and walkers – you truly made this event happen.
"Most of all, thank you Macclesfield for showing up and making this such a special day."
