A seafood restaurant in Macclesfield is shutting its doors.

Savages Mussels Bar on Church Street is set to close for good.

Owner Jamie Savage says the decision to shut comes amid rising costs.

"Firstly I'd like to say thanks for all your support since setting up over seven and a half years ago, it's been an absolute dream come true," Jamie said in a video shared on the restaurant's Facebook page.

"With the stress of food costs, staff costs, VAT. I'm still paying off bounce back loans from Covid and now it even costs me around £2,000 a year to park nearby to come to work thanks to Cheshire East Council.

"I'd also like to see my family and my girlfriend more often, not so many late nights at the weekend. So, I have decided to close Savages Mussels Bar."

In 2023, he took the plunge and opened up his own restaurant on Church Street.

Unfortunately, after nearly two years, it will close for good following service on Friday, September 26.

However, Jamie is confident this won't be the last you hear of the Savages Mussels brand.

He said: "It's not the end of Savages Mussels, there are things in the pipeline but we're taking a different route so keep on following us.

"I hope you've enjoyed eating with us and putting mussels back on the map.

"It's been great, it's been a good journey and I've loved absolutely every minute of it."
