Free event to help tackle loneliness in Macclesfield
Being social is part of human nature.
And a new initiative by a Macclesfield venue will help tackle feelings of isolation in the town.
Old Millstone, the Macclesfield town centre pub, will launch a new loneliness event.
The Campaign to End Loneliness suggests 25 million Brits regularly feel lonely, meaning it is likely that someone you know is affected by it.
Old Millstone publican Eli Fernihough explained what the new weekly event is all about:
"We're delighted to introduce our new get together to combat loneliness in our community," said Eli.
"This is something we all need to more of,
"Everyone has a story to tell but has nobody to hear it. We want people to reach out to help combat loneliness.
"Our new get together is every Thursday in the Old Millstone from 6pm. We will provide people from all walks of life with a space to come together."
Loneliness can lead to depression, sleep problems and death.
At least 46 suicides were recorded in Cheshire East in 2021, according to the latest government stats. This is up 26 from 2020's figure.
Cheshire East has more suicides than neighbouring areas like Stockport, High Peak, Cheshire West and Chester.
