Gena Moors, former patient of Macclesfield Hospital, recently visited the breast care unit to donate the £24,000 she raised as a thank you for the care she received.

And has also announced an American-themed charity ball in the process.

Gena recently attended the unit at Macclesfield Hospital on Victoria Road with her husband Rob and the Mayor of Congleton Cllr Rob Moreton.

They met with Ged Murphy, Chief Executive of East Cheshire NHS Trust, along with Lorraine Jackman, Director of Corporate Affairs and Governance, and Lisa Kirkup, Associate Director of Operations, and the team from the breast cancer unit. After the cheque presentation, Gena had a tour of the unit to discuss how her fundraising will be spent to benefit future patients.

Gena raised this incredible amount of money through organising her first Splash of Pink Breast Cancer Ball in September, at Shrigley Hall Hotel and Spa, which 190 people attended and fundraised throughout the event.

Gena, who is married with two children, was diagnosed with breast cancer just before lockdown in 2020 and underwent a lumpectomy. She then had chemotherapy at Macclesfield Hospital. Gena decided to create 'Splash of Pink' to say thank you for the care she received.

Gena said, "I'm blown away with the support I've had, and I'm so pleased with the amount raised. I'm incredibly proud of what's been achieved so far and can't wait for the next event. My aim is to raise £50,000 so we can purchase a new piece of equipment for the breast care department and help save lives – bring on Splash of Pink 2024!"

Ged Murphy, Chief Executive of East Cheshire NHS Trust said, "We're so grateful to Gena for throwing such an incredible event and supporting our charity. The money raised will go towards supporting the lives of future patients".

All staff on the breast cancer unit pose with this year's cheque.

Gena has already started on plans for next years event, Splash of Pink does Vegas, on Saturday 21st September 2024 at Shrigley Hall Hotel and Spa.

The theme is personal to Gena, as Las Vegas was somewhere she always wanted to visit but she never had the opportunity to go. That was until after she was diagnosed with cancer, once her treatment finished and to celebrate her 50th birthday they went and experienced her dream.

Guests attending the event will be greeted with a drinks reception and a 3-course dinner. There will be a fun money casino, entertainment, a silent and live auction and a disco until 1.00am. Tickets are now available for £80 per person, with tables of 12 available.

Table sponsorship is available for £150, businesses will appear on advertising for the event and in the brochure on the night, along with your business name and contact details on the table.

Gena's aim is to double her fundraising at next year's event, so the money raised can go towards a new piece of life saving equipment on the unit, above and beyond what the NHS funds.

If you'd like to book tickets, sponsor a table or could support with the Vegas theme please contact Gena on [email protected].
