A health club in Macclesfield has been given the green light to install a new golf practice area and padel courts.
Cheshire East Council has granted the Tytherington Club permission to build a new golf practice area with eight covered bays and ball-stop netting at its premises on Dorchester Way.
The planning permission also covers the construction of a new padel facility with three courts and floodlighting.
Following concerns raised by the council's environmental protection officer in regard to noise pollution, the plans were revised to relocated and resize the development.
On December 1, Cheshire East formally approved the plans on the condition that use of the padel courts be limited to 7am–10pm during British Summer Time and 8am–10pm the rest of the year.
A report outlining the decision reads: "It is deemed that the proposed works, considered cumulatively, would preserve the openness of the green belt.
"The proposals are acceptable in design terms, subject to a condition to ensure the finish of materials are appropriate.
"Due to the proximity of the padel courts to nearby residential properties in conjunction to the nature of the sport, in the event of approval, it is proposed that an hours of use restriction of this facility be imposed in the event of approval.
"Subject to this condition, the proposals are deemed acceptable in relation to amenity."

A design and access statement prepared by S&C Slatter on behalf of The Club Company claims that the existing golf practice area at the club is 'too short' to be used as a driving range.
Furthermore, the existing shelter is said to be in a 'dilapidated state'.
"A new golf practice area for use by the existing golf club members would allow The Club Company to bring practice facilities up to the standard of the rest of the on-site facilities," the statement reads.
"This would be a small facility aimed at allowing existing members to practice and is not intended to compete with local commercial driving ranges."
Meanwhile, it is argued that the addition of three padel courts would help the club meet demand and attract more visitors.
The statement adds: "The Tytherington Club requires new padel courts to keep up with the increasing general demand, to compete with similar facilities in the area, and to attract visitors from outside the region to the area with the associated benefits to the local economy."
The application and the full report outlining Cheshire East's decision can be found on the council planning portal under the reference 25/2491/FUL.
