Temperatures are set to reach 28 degrees Celsius in Macclesfield tomorrow, so a Macclesfield water expert has revealed how we can use H20 to keep cool.

Getting your daily water intake is not always as easy as it seems and can be a bit of a chore, so adjusting to drinking more during the heat can feel strange.

Luckily, The Bearded Water Sommelier Doran Binder is on hand to share his top tips to keep hydrated whilst enjoying the imminent heatwave.

The 50-year-old dad from Wildboarclough spoke candidly on how we can fight the heat with hydration.

"Everyone knows that we should all be drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, and even more when outside or working in the heat," Doran said.

"But it's not as easy as that. Throughout my career, I've heard countless stories of people finding it difficult to keep up.

"Whereas. others just don't like the taste of plain water.

"But there are ways to make water more enjoyable, for example sparkling it with a SodaStream or drinking it at the optimum temperature."

"Here are my 'thirst class tips' to keep your body cool with water:

  1. Take a temperature check. Typically the ideal temperature for water is room temperature, 20°c, as this ensures you can still taste the water. During a heatwave you might be tempted for something icy cold, but the disparity of temperature between ice water and your mouth can be quite a shock to the taste buds. So instead, a chilled 6°c will do the trick for a refreshing drink when the weather's hot.
  2. Experiment with carbonation. Plain tap water isn't for everyone, so sparkling your water in a SodaStream is a great way to make drinking water more exciting. You can then create the taste that works best for you by varying your level of carbonation and adding a new dimension to drinking water. Whether you prefer a light fizz or a really bubbly refreshment, you have the power to make your own bespoke taste.
  3. Give tap water a boost by experimenting with flavour. If you've ever felt that tap water tasted a little bit off, you're likely picking up on the chlorine present. So experiment with a light flavour to mask this and help you get your water intake. Why not add a slice of lemon for a refreshing zest, or a dash of passionfruit for something stronger?
  4. Don't wait until you're thirsty. Waiting until you're thirsty is almost too late because at that point, you're already dehydrated. Instead, drink before thirst to avoid symptoms like headaches, dizziness and fatigue.
  5. Never go anywhere without a bottle of water. It might sound obvious, but one of the easiest ways to remember to stay hydrated is by always taking a bottle of water with you. Immediately by having a bottle to hand, you are far more likely to sip little and often. SodaStream's 500ml My Only Bottle is the perfect size for this - so you can pop it in your bag and take your sparkling creation wherever you go.
  6. Take an extra glass of water to bed. Throughout the night, you might regularly wake up to sip on some water but that means by the morning time, there's none left. Take an extra glass with you so that as soon as you wake up, you can get an easy 250ml consumed, all without leaving your bed. You'd be surprised how thirsty you are!
  7. Listen to your body. Reaching your hydration targets is always encouraged but it's best to not try and reach this all in one go. Drinking large volumes in one hit can be dangerous, so I recommend drinking small sips regularly to smash that goal."
