A Macclesfield man is taking on a mammoth charity challenge - the 500 mile walk from Macclesfield to Paris.

Henry Moores will replace his relatively comfortable life at home for a grueling life on the road as he attempts to cover 22 miles a day for 23 days.

But for Henry it's not about the personal challenge but about raising money for those most desperate this Christmas.

The tradesman wants to raise £3000 to provide Christmas meals and experiences for the needy.

He has raised £1180 of his £3000 goal so far.

And his mission does not stop when his goal is reached at the top of the Eiffel Tower this November - he hopes to be directly involved in the delivery of over 200 food parcels which he will deliver throughout Cheshire and Greater Manchester over the festive period.

He said: "We are all selfish around Christmas time and I've been the same myself for many years.

"You think it's all about you receiving presents and this year I'm going to have a different Christmas and it's going to be special for me and everyone around me with my family excited to get involved."

He's aware how ambitious the challenge ahead is and is not only worried about the physical drain but also the effects of not seeing his family and friends for an extended period.

Henry has a caring nature.

However, inspired by his heroes Marcus Rashford and Ross Cook he wanted to give back and push himself into things which he didn't think were possible, and is currently fundraising for the epic mission.

The 21-year-old plasterer said: "I grew up in a very privileged background in a way, never had issues with food and whatnot and it can be hard to believe sometimes that people at Christmas don't have enough to eat.

"We all take it for granted but this does go on in our world and sometimes I find it very hard to believe."

He added: "I feel like I'm able to do this walk. I feel like this is the right time for me to do it. I'm just a normal lad who is able to do some good and I hope to inspire other people to do good things like this and raise money for a good cause.

"There are many other people out there just like me, we are able to do things to contribute to others, maybe not through walking and running but there are ways we can all look out for each other".

He'll set off on Saturday October 21 from Macclesfield.
