An investigation will take place following a fire in Macclesfield.

A huge emergency service presence descended on Brook Street on Wednesday afternoon, May 27, following a van fire near Maydews Passage.

Cheshire Police confirmed that a 25-year-old man was airlifted to hospital, with a nearby block of flats evacuated.

Now, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are set to launch an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.

A CFRS spokesperson said: "Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire on Maydews Passage, Macclesfield, which has now been extinguished.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building earlier to tackle the fire and safely evacuate residents. One casualty has been taken to hospital.

"The fire affected a brick building of flats, a van and a nearby shipping container.

"A fire investigation will now take place to establish the cause."

"Officers assisted in the evacuation of residents from a nearby block of flats whilst fire colleagues worked on extinguishing the fire.

"A 25-year-old man has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital via air ambulance."
