An Italian patisserie is set to open in Macclesfield.

Signs for Leyla's Dolci have gone up at the unit previously occupied by Loola Loves on Chestergate.

All going well, it is expected to be open by the end of the month.

It is the culmination of three years' of hard work by pastry chef Leyla Peaquin, who trained at The School of Italian Culinary Arts.

Born and raised in Italy, Leyla moved to the UK in 2020 and in 2023, started selling cakes from her home in Macclesfield.

She said: "After three years, I have finally taken the decision to take the next step and take on a new lease which will give me the opportunity to carry on creating cakes and open the doors to a shop here in Macclesfield.

"I want to bring the authentic feel of an Italian patisserie to Macclesfield, also serving dark roasted coffee and some Italian savoury options.

"This wasn't an easy decision, even though every exciting, as we all know the hospitality industry is stressful especially with the rising costs etc.

"But this is what I love to do, what I've always done and what I want to carry on doing, and it felt like the right time for me.

"All this is only happening thanks to all your support these last three years and for this I couldn't be more grateful and also this wouldn't be happening without the help from my partner, my sister and her partner!"

Leyla explained that the shop will not open every day, mainly operating on weekends as she will also be continuing to take private orders.

She added: "My goal is to bring a bit of sunshine to Macclesfield with the love I've got for the community and delicious Italian cakes."

Leyla's Dolci fills the void on Chestergate left by Loola Loves, which closed earlier this year.

Louise Bullock, owner of the independent gift shop, said: "Launching eight years ago, my dream was to eventually find a home on our high street.

"I wanted to showcase the work of independent designers, makers and creatives, bring a little joy to the high street and promote sustainable gifting.

"But most of all, build upon our wonderful community! I feel proud to have done just that and have loved every minute of it."
