King's School bucks the national trend with improved GCSE results

King's School GCSE students bucked the national trend as results continued to improve.
Although national figures showed some grade deflation, at King's grades have been on the up, with a small but significant increase this year.
Some 60% of all grades were at 9 to 7 or (A*/A) with 36% at 9/8 or (A*) and 80% of grades at 9 to 6 (A*- B).
A quarter of pupils achieved at least nine 9 - 7s (A*/A) while 20 students achieved ten 9 to 7s (A*/A) and 70% of pupils achieving a 9/8 (A*) in at least one subject.
Head of foundation, Jason Slack, said: "We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students.
"This excellent set of GCSE grades is the product of a huge amount of hard work from a talented group.
"These results continue the school's sustained upward trend for academic achievement in recent years.
"Through our supportive learning environment and excellent teaching, our students have achieved outstanding results while also developing more holistic characteristics such as leadership and resilience.
"I look forward to welcoming this cohort back into our Sixth Form, where I am confident they will continue to excel."

Among the high flyers is Adeline An, 16, who earned 11 grades at 9 and wants to specialise in either maths or physics taking four A-levels at King's Sixth Form.
A Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award holder, Adeline is a Grade 7 violinist, sings in the King's Foundation Choir and is a member of the Peak District String Orchestra.
Macclesfield Netball Club stalwart Anya Clayton, 16, who is also junior captain at Knutsford Golf Club, got five grade 9s and five grade 8s.
Alex Cooper, 16, got ten grade 9s and an 8 and hopes to use these fantastic results as a stepping stone to study medicine at Cambridge.
Pianist, violinist and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award holder Aryan Menon, 16, got seven grade 9s and four grade 8s and is hoping to read mechanical engineering after his A-levels.
Arabella Huntington, 16, got nine grade 9s and two grades 8s and ultimately wants to study at the world renowned London School of Economics.
Chorister, badminton player and Brownie Leader, Bethany Davies, 16, got three grade 9s and seven grade 8s and will be staying at King's Sixth Form before studying psychology at university.
Last but not least, county swimmer Camilla Wild, 16, earned six grade 9s and four grade 8s and wants to complete a French and history degree.
