A building society with a branch in Macclesfield has revealed their support for a local good cause.

Leek Building Society, who have a branch on Chestergate, have donated £1000 to Silklife Foodbank.

The revelation is part of charity drive, which has seen their recently-launched Charitable Foundation donate to good causes near their branches across the shires.

In a statement, Leek Building Society said: "Silklife Foodbank in Macclesfield, Cheshire, which is run and supported by Silklife Church, received funding to help provide local people with the essential food and sanitary items they need during the cost-of-living crisis.

"Leek Building Society donated £1,000 that the food bank then used to purchase the items they felt were most in demand for by the local community."

Other local charities the Leek Building Charitable Foundation have pledged their support to this year include Leek & District Samaritans and and Equalbase.

Dan Blackman from Silklife Foodbank, shared their appreciation for the funding, saying: "Thanks to the donation from Leek Building Society Charitable Foundation, we're able to continue providing our services to those facing an emergency hunger crisis.

"The cost-of-living crisis has meant that referrals for emergency food provisions remained considerably high even after the pandemic, leaving many families turning to their local foodbank for support.

Silklife Foodbank is located on George Street.

"Our team of volunteers work with businesses, schools, churches, clubs and the general public to ensure that anyone who encounters difficult times can receive emergency food support and signposting to appropriate services for further help."

The Foundation has now awarded over £34,000 to local charities and community groups and both the trustees and the staff at Leek Building Society have been delighted to see the positive difference that's been made.

Chair of the Charitable Foundation, Tim Edwards, added: "Since the Foundation launched in April 2022, over £34,000 has been granted to support a plethora of worthy causes across Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire.

"There's so much more we can do to support local charities and community groups, and I encourage anyone looking for funding to support the development of their people-focused initiatives to apply.

"It's a pleasure to be a part of a Charitable Foundation that truly cares about local people and their overall health and wellness."

Any local charities or community groups in need of financial support are encouraged to apply for a grant. The Foundation's Board of Trustees meet once every quarter to discuss applications, with the current submission window open until 31 December.

The Foundation are particularly encouraging grant applications for causes that help to combat social exclusion and improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable people.
