Liberal Democrats reveal candidate for upcoming Cheshire Police Commissioner election
Macclesfield residents will take to the polls this May in the upcoming Cheshire Police Commissioner elections.
The Cheshire Constabulary Police Commissioner Elections are on Thurday May 2.
The Police Commissioner holds Cheshire Constabulary to account, amongst other duties.
It is an elected position with candidates running for a political party.
The Liberal Democrats, who have stood in every PCC election since the position was founded in 2012, has revealed their candidate.
Paul Duffy will be throwing his hat into the ring to be Cheshire's next Police Commissioner for the first time.
His campaign office said: "As the race for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner heats up, one candidate emerges as a beacon of progressive change: Paul Duffy, proudly representing the Liberal Democrats."
"With a compelling vision for safer communities and a track record of public service, Paul is poised to bring a fresh approach to law enforcement in our region.
"Under the banner of 'Let the police, police,' Paul pledges unwavering commitment to combatting crime in all its forms.
"Recognising the pressing issues of violent crime, including knife crime and violence against women, Paul vows to prioritise these critical areas, ensuring that our streets are safe for all residents. Drawing on years of experience and a deep understanding of local dynamics, Paul will work tirelessly to implement targeted strategies to address these specific challenges head-on.
"But the Liberal Democrats knows that true progress requires more than just reactive measures. With a focus on prevention, Paul aims to reduce crime at its roots, investing in community initiatives, youth programs, and early intervention strategies. By addressing the underlying factors that contribute to criminal behavior, Paul is committed to creating lasting change and building a safer, more prosperous future for Cheshire."
The Liberal Democrats came fourth in 2012, fourth in 2016 and third in 2021.
Paul hopes to be the first Cheshire PCC for the yellow-clad party.
His campaign press release added: "Central to Paul's platform is the implementation of restorative justice practices, offering a compassionate and effective alternative to traditional punitive measures. By fostering accountability, healing, and reconciliation, restorative justice not only reduces reoffending but also strengthens community bonds, promoting a sense of trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public."
"With deep roots in the community, Paul brings a wealth of experience to the table. Married and parent of two, Paul understands the importance of building a secure environment for families to thrive.
"Moreover, Paul's tenure as a town councillor reflects a proven dedication to public service and a keen understanding of local governance.
"As the Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner election approaches, The Liberal Democrats Paul Duffy, stands ready to lead with integrity, compassion, and a bold vision for a safer, more just Cheshire."
He is not the only candidate currently confirmed across the political spectrum.
Incumbent John Dwyer will be running again for the Conservatives, meanwhile Dan Price will be running for Labour.
The Reform Party ran in 2021, but it is unclear if they are selecting a candidate again as of yet.
There is less than a month to register to vote in the elections.
Historically, UKIP and Independent candidates have also stood for the position.
