Macclesfield man running SEVEN marathons for The Rossendale Trust
A Macclesfield man is taking on a Herculean feat of athleticism to raise money for a local good cause.
Nigel Wright, aged 52 from Macclesfield has decided to take on an epic challenge in aid of local charity The Rossendale Trust.
Having signed up to complete 7 marathons in 7 months last year, Nige unfortunately suffered injury and his efforts were cut short. But not one to be deterred, he is once again ready to lace up his running shoes for charity and in the next 12 months plans to complete 6 marathons, 5 half marathons and a 69 mile ultra marathon!!
His challenge will begin on September 10th as he participates in the Great North Run. Other races will include Berlin Marathon, Munich Marathon, Athens Marathon, Berlin Half Marathon, London Marathon, Hamburg Marathon, Stockholm Marathon and will conclude with Nigel running the length of Hadrian's Wall (69 miles) in an Ultra Marathon
Nige (as he is also known by) is not underestimating the enormity of what he has chosen to do.
"Running just one marathon can really takes it's toll on the body, so I have no doubt there will be plenty of aches and pains along the way," he said.
"But I just need to remember why I am doing this challenge. Every day the Rossendale Trust helps adults with learning disabilities overcome barriers and I am sure this will get me through the more difficult parts of the challenge and help me across the finish lines."
Nige, is a Senior Support Worker at the Rossendale Trust, so he knows exactly how important fundraising is to the people he works with, "My colleagues and I provide vital services and opportunities to people living with learning disabilities. I see first-hand what a real difference we make to the lives of the people we support. Fundraising is so important if we are to continue to offer these services and continue to help as many people as possible live full and meaningful lives."
Nige is hoping to raise £2500 for the Trust. He has a designated fundraising page where donations can be made - and is asking the people of Macclesfield to show their support for him and the Trust. You can do so by clicking HERE.
