A local brewery will be calling their regulars and the community together to walk our area's glorious countryside for charity.

Bollington Brewing Company, who are celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, have decided to go bigger and better for the return of their annual charity walk.

For the first time, they will raise money for not one, but two charities. The charity walk will tour a trio of local Bollington Brewing Company venues, and take place on Saturday April 15.

Tim Jones, Commercial Support Manager for Bollington Brewing Company, is organising the event.

"We have been doing charity pub walks since 2017.", he said.

"Each year we choose a charity which is quite close to the heart of one of the pubs or someone linked to the organisation."

Due to COVID, it is the first time such a walk has been held in four years.

Food at The Vale Inn and The Park Tavern, plus a Bollington beer, are included in the ticket fee, which aims to raise hundreds for charity.

The first charity the fundraising hike will benefit is the national organisation Brain Tumour Research.

"We chose Brain Tumour Research as one of our patrons and one of my friends Liam Bergin is working very hard to raise funds them", explained Tim.

The other charity is a local cause, being One Project Ukraine.

One Project Ukraine is a of Macclesfield Ukrainian support groups, and is part of One Project Macclesfield, a local community group supporting projects from community gardens to recycling.

The funds will go to the Ukrainian side of the volunteer-led venture. Jeanette Rice, co-founder of One Project Ukraine, is looking forward to the event.

"The brewery have been a massive support over the last few months, from hosting a Ukrainian charity quiz at The Park Tavern where we raised over £320, to showing the Paddington movies [which stars Volodymyr Zelenskyy] in Ukrainian for our local community.

"So we are very grateful for them and the community to continue supporting us through this walk across the three Bollington Brewing Co venues."

The last time Bollington Brewing Company did a charity hike, they raised almost £800. And they hope to exceed that this year.

"Walkers pay a flat fee of £20 which gets them Coffee and Cake at The Cask Tavern [in Poynton] at the 10am start," added Tim.

"There will be a chance for a snack at The Vale Inn in Bollington and then a meal at The Park Tavern on Park Lane in Macclesfield.

"You can buy extra beers at the pitstops if you wish.

"All [ticket] proceeds are then donated to the charity. There will be food options for vegetarians as well.

"We have always prided ourselves in doing our bit for the community as a company, so any way we can give back we will do so.

"We have fantastic countryside here so it encourages us all to get outdoors and celebrate that."

Previous years have seen support for Poynton charity Ollie's Army and Macclesfield's Space4Autism supported.

The Park Tavern's ongoing refurbishment will be done by the time the weekend walk takes place, so it will be a great opportunity for punters to check the renovations out.

The walks includes the Middlewood Way, Macclesfield Canal and of course White Nancy, which features in the logo of the proudly Bollington based business.

They have even named one of their beers after the latter.

If you'd like to go on the charity walk, buy your £20 ticket on their online shop, where you can also buy their bottles of beer.

The walk will tour their three venues in Poynton, Bollington and Macclesfield, all serving beer made from their Adlington Road Bollington site. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)
