The Co-op is organising a donation of Easter eggs for key health workers and their patients - and Macclesfield residents are encouraged to donate.

Amid the cost of living crisis and a gruelling past few years for healthcare workers, the Co-op is hoping to surprise some of Macclesfield's hardest workers with free chocolate.

East Cheshire Hospice, the charity and care centre for those afflicted with life-limiting illnesses, will be one of three causes to benefit.

The others are the Christie at Macclesfield and the children's ward at Macclesfield Hospital.

Co-op customers have until April 4 (three days before Easter) to donate Easter egg treats for the donation drive.

Macclesfield Co-op Member Pioneer Louise Little explained how it works.

"The Easter Egg drive is running in all nine of our Macclesfield Co-op stores," she said.

"You have two weeks to donate from Tuesday March 21 to Tuesday April 4.

"All you have to do is buy an Easter egg and tell a staff member you wish to donate it.

"Thank you to everyone for their generosity."

Both Macclesfield Hospital and East Cheshire Hospice were the recipients of last year's Easter egg donation drive.

In 2022, a total of 250 Easter eggs were gifted to the Victoria Road and Millbank Drive establishments.

You can donate any Easter chocolates big or small, as long as they are bought in the Co-op and left behind the till by informing a staff member.

The Co-op will be donating some stock and also gifted chocolate-related presents to the community at Christmas time.

Please note: Only Co-op food stores are participating in collecting treats, not Co-op Funeralcare.
