She's done it again: Macclesfield boxer Karriss Artingstall has won again in the Olympics, to book a place in the Women's Featherweight semi-finals.

It means she is guaranteed a medal - so will come home with a guaranteed a bronze.

She could of course go one further, and be in contention for a silver or gold if she win's her next match.

Karriss Artingstall (26) reached the semi-final in the women's featherweight after a split decision win over Australian Skye Nicolson.

Her 25-year-old opponent was the reigning Commonwealth champ, so it is an incredible victory for Karriss.

She bravely fought for a 3-2 victory, in the first time she had conceded points in this bracket, following a suite of 5-0 victories.

GB Boxing said: "What an achievement - congrats, Karriss!".

The British army gunner will take on boxer Sena Irie of Japan, who also beat their quarter final opponent 3-2.

Sena has secured Japan's first-ever Olympics medal in women's boxing, and will be keen to go one step further against the Maxonian - but not if Karriss has anything to say about it!

Home field advantage may be on the 20-year-old Japanese boxers side, so let's see if we can get all of Macclesfield to show their support for Karriss as she battles to be in contention for a silver or gold medal.

Her next match is Saturday 31st July at 11:24 UK time. Coverage is on the BBC and Eurosport.

If Karriss secures a spot in the final, she will face the winner of Nesthy Petecio from the Philippines, and Irma Testa from Italy.

If Karriss loses on Saturday, she will have bagged Team GB and Macclesfield a bronze, and regardless of the result, has already made our town extremely proud.

Steve Bunce, a Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live said: "Karriss Artingstall is elated."

"The last 10 seconds when Skye Nicolson pinned her back I though that would be the decider - she had a good few minutes. - it's a semi-final now.

"She is beating people she's meant to lose to, she's beaten the number three seed, she's just beaten the Commonwealth Games champion.

"Once you get to a semi-final, all bets are off."

Elsewhere, Macclesfield Olympian Elliot Hanson sits in 8th in the laser sailing, but it is all to play for as two days of action remain. Come on Elliot, and come on Karriss!
