Macclesfield Bus Station to become a 'Departures Only' station to make travel by public transport safer

By Tom Avery 31st Jul 2020

From Tuesday (4 August), Macclesfield Bus Station will become a 'Departures Only' bus station as a further measure to make travel by public transport safer.

There will be no change to the usual departure bays.

Passengers arriving in Macclesfield by bus will set down at a temporary 'Arrivals' bay in Queen Victoria Street adjacent to the bus station entrance.

This has been used for short-stay parking and taxis, but a temporary traffic order is in place to allocate the bay exclusively to buses from 4 August.

Notices are in place to advise motorists and taxi drivers of this change.

The temporary measures have been introduced by Cheshire East Council's wholly owned transport company Transport Service Solutions who want to prevent any additional risk from arriving and departing passengers moving in close proximity to each other in a confined space.

Segregating arrivals and departures will aid social distancing, while all bus users are reminded that face coverings must be worn within the bus station and on buses.

All bus operators have been consulted on the changes.
