A Sunderland Street business have just celebrated their first birthday.

SMP Clinic, of 40 Sunderland Street, offer a hair replacement service for both men and women.

They have been flying relatively under the radar, by appointment only and through social media advertising, but this benefits the business given the stigmas that still exist around losing your head hair.

The company has attracted clients as far as Plymouth who have travelled up for their skin micro pigmentation services.

They are qualified and certified, and keep the highest possible standards of hygiene. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

Macclesfield Nub News met with the pair behind the business to find out what SMP Clinic is all about.

"I run the clinic side of the business where Matt does the training academy", said technician Elita Aleinikova.

"SMP stands for scalp micro pigmentation," said Matheu Slusar, who himself has skin micro pigmentation done by Elita.

"It is a treatment for hairloss. What we do is that Ell has perfected a technique which we call the 'au natural' technique, where you place pigments of ink in the soap to replicate hair follicles, and it gives the illusion you have got hair with a shaved head.

The process is not rushed, and is spread over multiple appointlents, which helps with confidence and assurance of a high quality service on offer. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"It is a great feeling. We call our mirror the confidence mirror, as by our third session with our clients the difference you see in how they are feeling is amazing.

"You take a guy in his 50s who looks in the mirror and looks like he has shaved ten years off his life.

"We get lots of customers who are getting married and want to have it done. To people who have been bald all their life, or people who are just starting to lose their hair and their confidence with it as their hair is thinning. But what we can do is bring that confidence back.

"We also do ladies as well, with what we cal a density fill where you part the hair, fill it with ink, not like a tattoo but carefully placed particles where the hair follicles are or were to give the illusion of a thicker and fuller head of hair. For women it is a massive thing, as generally men are used to losing their hair but women not so much."

The pair who live in nearby Whaley Bridge, love their location as it is discreet, but also near Macclesfield Railway Station. A handy fact when a lot of their clients travel afar for their expertise.

They boast over 6000 followers on Instagram, which has helped share the profile of the business.

Believe it or not, many enquiries start with wives and partners finding out about the treatment on social media and then sending it to their husband.

"We've been doing this for almost three years", added Matheu.

"But this clinic opened this time last year.

"We're appointment only, between 10am and 7pm Monday to Friday.

"We can also camouflage scars from botched hair transplants to make it look like hair.

"The process is spread out across multiple appointments which take a few hours each.

The process is not a rushjob. But that offers a more relaxed environment for the customer, where they can get to know the business and the people behind it, increasing their confidence in the overall process and get used to their new look. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"After the ink has been deposited, you need to take it easy for a three days, you can still work just don't sweat or shower.

"After that, we give you a nice oil to keep the scalp nice and supple, and then see you again ten days later to make sure the ink has settled."

Hygiene and getting to know the customer are top priorities for the small independent business.

Ell listed her favourite parts of the job: "I just love the end result when they look in the mirror and say 'oh my gosh, I can't believe this'.

"I love changing lives and giving people their confidence back."

"Ell is the best at her job," added Matheu.

"The technique she has mastered uses three different needles, and some of the dots she uses looks like actual lines to replicate hair follicles.

"I used to work in medical sales, my hairloss journey began ten years ago and has led to us going into business together and starting this. Ell was doing this before, but now we can work for ourselves and train others through our training academy."

The process can be used to treat male patterned baldness in men, and alopecia in women. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"We love being a business in Macclesfield. It is the perfect location, we wanted to be on this side of Manchester, and we are really close to Stoke.

"And we love our unit as it is discreet by not being bang on in the town centre, and it is near loads of carparks. We also wanted a place with a back door, which some people prefer.

"We're grateful to serve the local community, but also welcome people from all over the UK. We get clients from as far as south west England and Wales, which is mainly down to our technique we've honed."

Being Macclesfield's first clinic to specialise in skin micro pigmentation, the company is keen to answer any queries and offers a free and discreet consultation service, for which you can find more about on their website. They regularly post special offers to their Facebook.
