Macclesfield charity shop in temporary closure seeks new volunteers

One of Macclesfield's Age UK stores has had to close their doors this week, due to a shortage of staff and volunteers.

Located on 2 Exchange Street, the shop is usually open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Unfortunately, due to an unfortunate combination of staff absence and volunteer availability, it has had to shut up shop for the week.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to Age UK Cheshire East CEO Damon Taylor on the matter.

"Unfortunately, our charity shop in Exchange Square Macclesfield has had to temporarily close its doors due to staff shortage, due to a combination of sickness absence and staff holidays," he said.

"We do hope that the shop will re-open next week once we can get sufficient staff and volunteers back to support us.

"We have approximately 13 volunteers who currently support the shop, although some of them have understandably reduced their volunteering hours during the pandemic.

The Age UK Macclesfield furniture showroom, located in Churchill Way just one minute away from the shut store, is not affected by this staff issue.

It remains open as usual, and hopes their sister store will be open once again very soon.

"Although we do not have an exact number of volunteers that we aim for at the shop, we welcome anyone who can help out in the shop," he added.

"We have very flexible hours available, and a large number of roles within the shop itself, which includes working on the till, sorting new donations, steaming of clothes as well as just general help around the shop.

"Our Shop generates vital income for our charity, with all proceeds from sales going towards helping support older people across Cheshire East."

Anyone interested in volunteering in the shop should either call their general number on 01625 612958 or email at [email protected].

More information is also available on the website at this webpage.

Age UK Cheshire East is a registered charity founded in 1988.

It supports older people across Cheshire East with a variety of services specifically aimed at people in later life.
