A Macclesfield venue has launched a new event which provides a spotlight to local music artists.

Macclesfield musicians will get the opportunity to take to the stage at Cinemac, with a new regular event called Cinemac Live.

The first Cinemac Live will take place on Friday March 24, from 7 to 11pm. Tickets cost £12, and you will be supporting a billing packed with local musicians.

The cinema inside a Grade II-Listed building on Roe Street has dipped their toes into music in recent years.

The cinema already sells drinks you'd find at any music venue, and given the size of the space, it is a natural fit to expand. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

This helped the cinema bounce back from COVID, while also attracting new audiences.

Initially, the concerts were tribute acts to bands like ABBA or Queen.

And while these will still continue, these successful pilots of Cinemac as a live music venue has now seen the independent cinema go all in on gigs.

The decision was cemented for Cinemac Director Jordan Wilson when well-known Macclesfield rock band The Virginmarys performed a headline show in December.

"We're delighted to be announcing Cinemac Live", he said.

"As well as showing the latest films, we want to use our space to provide a platform to support local musicians.

"The first evening will see three fantastic Macclesfield acts. There is Joel Gardener who supported The Virginmarys at the show last December and Red Sky Dawn who are a fantastic young Macclesfield band [and just released their debut EP].

"We've also got a local band called The Cinema Show, who use projections of images as part of their set, so the venue could not be more perfect for them.

"It is a big venue for the acts and great to support local as much as anything else."

Tickets are on a separate website to how you'd normally book films to watch at Cinemac, with The Heritage Centre-based business marketing their live events separately.

Tickets cost £12 and can be purchased HERE.

If future acts would like to take part, please contact Cinemac.

Macclesfield has a thriving independent music scene, boasting venues such as Mash Guru, The Swan with Two Necks and The Nags Head.
