In the week Ukraine warned of a Third World War, Macclesfield Nub News caught up with Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid Collection Point, to find out what is new with them.

Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid Collection Point are one of two Macclesfield-based Ukrainian aid deliverers in the town.

It is ran by the Hancock family, who have Ukrainian heritage.

With reports of the war potentially petering out in 2024, Macclesfield Nub News met with the volunteers to find out how locals are helping.

"Two years on, the situation in Ukraine is worse," said Anne Hancock.

Donations can be brought to, Unit 2, Garrison House, Macclesfield, SK11 7JW.

"People have spent their savings, and it is harder to support their families due to men having to join up, displacement and job losses.

"Macclesfield and surrounding towns give us as much support as we can cope with. It certainly hasn't receded. We have been lucky to be able to move to a more spacious unit in Leek. The aid is still flowing in. [And you can still donate to the prior unit at Unit 2, Garrison House, Macclesfield, SK11 7JW.]"

"The quality and suitability has improved as our supporters understand better the type of aid that is needed."

And it isn't just individuals. Businesses have been very vocal with their support in recent months, with the Hulley Road Mot Centre recently sourcing 30 vehicles for Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid Collection Point to use.

"We get such generous responses to appeals for specific items, from individuals and local businesses," revealed Anne.

To date, they have taken over 137 4x4 vehicles, pickups, minibuses, and vans to Ukraine, loaded with aid to support those most in need. Many of this, was given to them at no cost.

In addition to goods, the support is ongoing thanks to the generous people of Macclesfield who have donated money as well. You can donate funds towards to their latest round of aid delivery on this link, or via bank transfer.

And the good cause is now entering a new era, as Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid Collection Point now has Community Interest Company status.

"We hope that this gives the public reassurance to donate aid and help finance our deliveries to Ukraine," said Anne, who has personally been on 16 trips to Ukraine since the war began.

"Typically the majority of donations that we receive are medical related.

"That makes up about 60%, then clothing and shoes take up 15%.

"10% of donations are sanitary and personal hygiene related, a further 10% is for technical, generators, stretchers, tents, camping stoves and gas.

"The remaining donations are 5% dried or canned food, sleeping equipment, electrical items from laptops, tablets and solar chargers, to torches with batteries."

Other things you can donate - but aren't commonly donated - include vegetable seeds, hand tools, and water sterilisation tablets.

It has been a rollercoaster two-years and two-months for the aid collection group, with highlights including delivering a minibus in Dnipro with former Macclesfield Police officers, to receiving a Civic Award from the Mayor of Macclesfield.

Anne shared what she found appealing about Ukrainian culture, something of which, is under threat from the war.

"Thank you to the Macclesfield community for their support," she told.

"I feel that Ukrainian music, art, and food culture is focussed on the strong bond with Mother Earth, the beauty of nature and family bonds. And the food is delicious."

While they do not support the Macclesfield Ukrainian Community with any aid, they do socialise with them, and have helped out.

"They are happy to be be able to do something practical to help the situation back home," Anne shared.

Macclesfield businesses are also still supporting in strong numbers, with Bollington firm tyrZ showing strong support over the past two years. (Image - Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid Collection Point)

Elsewhere in what is new for the good cause, they have got their ducks in a row to comply with new Ukrainian Government anti-corruption import laws.

All aid is entered into an electronic inventory when we packed. Legal signed agreements are in place with the recipients before the aid leaves us, and is traceable and signed for by the end recipients.
