Macclesfield: Consultation period for ticket office closure plan is extended
A consultation on plans to close ticket offices at stations across the nation has been extended after an outcry from passengers.
Train operators across the UK have extended the consultation by an extra five and a half weeks, meaning it has been extended until September 1st.
Macclesfield Railway Station is one of the ticket offices threatened by the closure.
The consultation on closing about 1,000 ticket offices across the country was due to finish at 11.59pm on Wednesday, July 26th.
On Wednesday July 5, Westminster announced proposals to close nearly every railway station ticket office across England - with nearby stations like Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel and Sandbach included.
Now the consultation period has been extended over the summer giving passengers more time to have their say.
The new deadline is September 1. Macclesfield: To take part in the consultation, click here.
There is also an ongoing petition to try and save the station. In other news, the station will be affected by strikes this weekend.
