There could be a new wedding venue in Gawsworth, should councillors vote for one.

High Lane Farm on Congleton Road in Gawsworth, wants to turn an "agricultural building and stone barn into a wedding venue, and the stone barn adjacent to it, into a kitchen and toilet facilities."

"The immediate site is set with approximately just over 24 acres, so there is room, for parking and accessing the new venue."

Parking would be on the grass, and the livestock farm will co-exist as a working farm with the new proposed venue.

A planning document claims the farm has downsized in recent years, leaving the opportunity for this new venture.

Aiming to capture the weekend wedding market, the wedding venue would be Gawsworth's third.

It has not been decided whether the bar will be on-site or mobile to serve wedding guests.

One of the nearby barns is already holiday accommodation, and could be let by any prospective bride or groom.

Concerns have been raised by locals:

One includes the owner of a nearby livery for over 20 sick horses, which stated "Many of the horses with us have leg and hoof injuries, that would worsen if they were to become frightened and [be] caused to bolt or gallop in fear.

"The horses have come to us specifically for a quiet life and not to be spooked by the traffic and noise from a party venue. We also have a massive concern for the use of fireworks that many people have at weddings."

A planning document on behalf of the would-be wedding venue owner claims "Noise levels will be controlled through good insulation within" and highlighted that the businessman that would benefit from the new venue would live nearest to the venue, meaning it would be "in his interests to keep noise levels to a minimum".

A fellow Congleton Road resident remarked "It would cause a great deal of noise and light pollution in our immediate location going on into the early morning.

"The proposed access is shared with other property that use it to access there field. Other venues like this are located well away from other properties."

However, the applicant is open to having a Noise Impact Assessment to contest this opinion.

Another member of the public who identified themselves as a 'Concerned Congleton Road resident' claimed "Everyone in the hamlet of High Lane and the surrounding residential village of Gawsworth is horrified by this proposal as it will cause huge amounts of vehicle footfall and disturbance to what should remain a small sleepy farming village."

Another comment read: "Drunk people wandering around the farm [sic] could easily make their way onto our land. The introduction of said party/wedding venue would cause a detrimental effect on our business."

Another representation from a businessperson said: "The access to this proposed venue uses the same lane that I use to access my storage yard with agricultural machinery for which I require two way access. There is no other way to access my yard.

"Young children play on this lane and it lays within a few meters of bedrooms. I fear both light and noise pollution on top of the danger of heavy traffic. many people have died on this stretch of the A536. I do not want to encourage any further horrific deaths on this piece of highway."

While the deadline for public comments and a target decision day have both expired, there is no scheduled date to be heard on the Cheshire East meeting schedule.

There are no comments from the public supporting the prospective wedding venue.
