A teenage defender is the latest recruit to our town's new football club - Macclesfield FC.

Right-back Josh Woodcock has signed a deal with the club, of an unspecified length.

The 19-year-old Yorkshireman started his career in at the New York Stadium with Rotherham United.

He then left South Yorkshire to join the Academy at Lincoln City, another Football League Club.

After moving through the youth ranks at Sincil Bank, Josh went on loan to Derbyshire.

It was at Belper Town where he would acquire First Team experience at Northern Premier League side, during the second half of the 2019/20 season.

This is one competition above Macclesfield's current level, in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.

He would impress at Christchurch Meadow, making his debut for The Nailers in March 2020.

Macclesfield's new signing became known for solid defensive displays and attacking pushes deep up the pitch.

He turned his temporary Belper deal permanent deal just four months later in July 2020.

He couldn't play as much as he'd liked to, as the 2020/21 season was prematurely curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Josh went on to make seven appearances, and left Belper with them being seventh place in the abandoned league.

"I'm very excited to be here. I can't wait to get started," Josh said.

"I've loved every minute I've been here and there are some good players here as well as me.

"When I first came to here [Macc] the facilities were unbelievable. Second-to-none. Top class. The pitch is brand new."

We are just days away from Macclesfield FC's pre-season fixtures kicking off. It will be a short trip to the High Peak to face New Mills AFC on June 29.

"Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce our latest summer signing, after 19-year-old right-back Josh Woodcock agreed terms here at the Leasing.com Stadium," the club said.

"We would like to wish Josh every success here at Macclesfield FC."

Macclesfield Nub News wishes Josh, and our town's football club well for the new season.
