Macclesfield FC have announced their seventeenth summer signing - who once caught the eye of Robbie Fowler.

Leon Arnasalam, a pacey winger with a hunger for goals, has joined The Silkmen for their debut season.

The announcement comes on a huge day for English football, as our national team take on Denmark in the EURO 2020 semi-final.

Macc's new player was raised in Toxteth, Merseyside. He was in the U14's team at Preston North End, before enjoying spells at Marine, AFC Liverpool and Lower Breck.

The winger has featured in former England striker Robbie Fowler's Liverpool-based Academy.

He's also represented Bolton Wanderers U23s, Warrington Town, Skelmersdale United and Burscough.

Leon will have the chance to face former clubs AFC Liverpool, Skelmersdale United and Burscough this season, as they too like Macc are in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division. Infact, Leon could make his debut against the latter.

Macc's opening game is at the Leasing.com Stadium against Burscough on July 31, as we recently revealed.

It is unknown how long the permanent deal the midfielder has signed with the club.

"Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce the signing of exciting 21-year-old winger Leon Arnasalam, who has agreed a deal with the Club ahead of the 2021/22 campaign," the club said.

"Equally at home on either wing, Leon can also be employed in the traditional number ten role and signs for Danny Whitaker's side following a successful trial period at the Club.

"Leon is a player who will unquestionably get the Silkmen faithful on the edge of his seat with his speed and creativity.

"In the limited amount of games that he has featured in already, Leon has already shown that he can beat his man and offer a potent offensive threat.

"We would like to wish Leon every success here at Macclesfield FC and will be discussing the move with him shortly."

Macclesfield FC's current squad contains zero goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders, and five forwards.

You can follow Macc's new player on Twitter.

Please note that Leon's transfer is subject to ratification from the Football Association and North West Counties Football League.

The club also posted photos of Leon playing in Macc's kit.

Earlier in the week, the Silkmen beat Witton Albion in a pre-season friendly 3-1. Their fourth pre-season fixture welcomes Leek Town to Macclesfield this Saturday.
