MACCLESFIELD: Got an event to promote? Remember you can always list it for FREE on the Macclesfield Nub News What's On section.

Once a week, we highlight an event in greater detail. And today, we have an alternative event to look forward to before the football.

Macclesfield Silk Museum is hosting an event honouring The Women of Ancient Egypt.

This fascinating one hour talk is hosted by Professor Joyce Tyldesley BA, DPhil, of the University of Manchester.

The talk will be held online via Zoom on July 7 at 5:30pm. You can pay what you want to access the lecture, via this link.

"The women of ancient Egypt lived remarkable lives. They could own, buy, sell, earn and inherit property," said Professor Joyce Tyldesley.

"They could live unprotected by male guardians and, if widowed or divorced, could care for their children alone.

"They could bring cases before, and be punished by, the law courts. And they could deputise for their husbands in matters of business.

"This lecture will consider the lives of many women – from servants to queens – in ancient Egypt."

Macclesfield Museums added, "We are very excited to have Professor Joyce Tyldesley as our speaker for this talk, as she is an authority on women in ancient Egypt.

"Today's talk has been organised as part of a wider programme, with new talks on ancient Egypt and fashion taking place on the first and third Wednesdays of each month respectively.

"This lecture by Professor Joyce Tyldesley will consider the lives of many women – from servants to queens – in ancient Egypt.

"Ticket entry is by Give What You Can donations welcome, in partnership with Friends Of Macclesfield Museums.

"Every donation, of any size, makes an important difference in helping Macclesfield Museum's work with our local community and preserving our collections. Please consider giving what you can. Thank you."

Once a donation is given, a Zoom login link and password are included on the attached email ticket.

Please check your junk folder if you do not receive an email ticket.

This is a rare opportunity for the people of Macclesfield to find about Ancient Egyptian women.

These incredible women could own property, bring cases before, and be punished by, law courts and deputise for their husbands in business.
