A Macclesfield chippy has been named the best in the county.

George's at Thornton Square picked up the prize for Cheshire's Best Fish and Chip Shop at the regional England's Business Awards Show on Sunday, May 31.

It is a huge moment for the shop that opened just seven years ago and owner, George Psomas, couldn't be happier.

He said: "Honestly, we are so happy to receive the award for Best Fish and Chip Shop in Cheshire.

"It means so much to us to be recognised and supported by the community around us.

"Since opening our fish and chip shop over seven years ago, we have had the privilege of employing some truly wonderful people and even launched our first apprenticeship scheme recently.

"Our hard work and dedication to serving up tasty food, using the freshest and best quality produce is our top priority, whilst also offering a friendly and professional service to our lovely customers.

"We have always achieved five-star ratings from the Food Standards Agency and receiving the Best Fish and Chip Shop award means so much to be valued and appreciated by those around us.
