Macclesfield: Flats could be coming to Mill Lane near The Silk Road
Plans have been submitted to bulldoze a former commercial building in Macclesfield to make way for an apartment block and retail area.
Macclesfield property developers Serenity Developments Ltd has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to demolish the property on land adjacent to 10-12 Mill Lane, and build a block of 13 flats on the upper three floors with parking, amenities and a retail area at ground level.
The homes would be market value and comprise 11 two-bedroom homes and two three-bed properties.
No detailed planning statement is available on the council's website, but an acoustic planning statement from Lighthouse Acoustics states: "The proposed residential development comprises the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a detached four-storey building containing 13 flats with retail unit and parking at ground floor level."
The site currently comprises a two-storey former office block with car park.
It is bounded by Lower Bank Street to the north, River Bollin to the east, The Silk Road to the south and Mill Lane to the west.
According to the application form, there are currently 13 car parking spaces on the site and these will be maintained for the new development.
The application, number 24/2406M, can be viewed on the planning portal on the Cheshire East Council website.
The closing date for comments is August 7 and, according to the council's website, the proposal is due to be considered by the northern planning committee on August 21.
The site of these potential new flats is just a stone's throw from Crossings, another high-end set of apartments which opened in Macclesfield in 2022.
