A Macclesfield fragrance shop hopes to return a former service offered in 2024.

FD Beauty, of Chestergate's west side is a perfume and skincare shop.

The business associated with - but treated independently to - Fragrance Direct, with the high street presence being FD Beauty.

There's two staff at their 35 Chestergate shop, but there could soon be more.

This is because FD Beauty has desires to resume the beauty therapist side of their business in 2024.

Macclesfield Nub News met with FD Beauty Sales Assistants Hannah Connelly and Sarah Pheasey for a chat about the past, presence and future.

"The biggest core of what we sell is fragrances", said Hannah.

"And we are building up on the skincare side as well.

"The classics are the best-sellers for women, like Armani, and we have celebrity fragrances from Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica-Parker.

"Our women's range is larger, but a big men's brand at the moment is Montblanc.

"We are a mid-range perfume shop, from low end to almost high end. Bordering luxury, with a small amount of Dior and Givenchy, but at affordable prices.

"Because we have big business on our website, we can afford to price it a bit lower than Boots can."

Customers can save money on delivery by shopping in-store, and they can also try before they buy, with smelling papers scattered throughout the store.

Other in-store advantages include the expertise and personal touch of the Sales Assistants, samples, along with the occasional store-only clearance sales.

A perfume shop has been here since the 1970s. With the most recent previous name being Chestergate Cosmetics, before business transfers and a rebrand took it under the Fragrance Direct umbrella (the online fragrance shop which was once headquartered in Macclesfield). 

Until the spring of 2023, FD Beauty also had an upstairs floor, which was a beauty salon.

"We do a small amount of cosmetics," explained Hannah.

"We have a salon upstairs, we are currently looking for a new beauty therapist so we can reopen it again.

"Please ring 023 8023 033 for more information."

Another niche, according to staff, is that they are the only place in town that stocks luxury women's skincare brand Clarins.

Hannah had this to say about the favourite parts about her job:

"I love working with perfume, there is so much more to it than just smelling nice," said the Bollington resident.

"Some people like a seasonal perfume, some will just wear whatever they like on a given day.

"I like being on Chestergate as we are part of an independent business community.

"Our message to the town would be thank you to the people of Macclesfield for your support over the years, and for those that know the name 'Chestergate Cosmetics', is that we are still effectively them.

"The only thing that has changed over the 50 years is a title on the door.

"And finally, if we don't stock a perfume you want, we can try and order in in.

Furthermore, The store does their bit for the community, with a charity pot for The Christie Macclesfield in-store."
