A Macclesfield shop is rallying their customer base to join them in donating items to local schoolchildren.

Wool and haberdashery store Crafty Corner, of 81 Mill Street are donating knitted gloves, scarves and hats to Macclesfield primary school kids.

Expert crocheter Ruth Eaton explained how it works: "Every year we collect hand knitted (or crocheted) children's hats and distribute them to local school pupils."

"Last year we gave out close to 300 hats and we'd like to try and do the same this year.

"So if any Crafty readers of Macc Nub have a small amount of wool they are wondering what to do with, we'd really appreciate a child sized hat, any pattern or style, any yarn, for a child aged 5 plus.

"We are extremely grateful that whenever we launch an appeal that the crafters of Macclesfield and beyond really pull together. We have recently been collecting knitted garments for the Ukraine appeal and have been inundated with marvellous creations which have all been sent now.

"And previously we collected "twiddle muffs", which have been donated to a local care home, they are used to calm anxious residents, a bit like children's fidget toys.

"So we'd also like to thank our customers for their continued support and generosity.

"Hats can be donated anytime from now until the end of November. In the shop, on Mill Street."

Two local schools currently signed up to benefit include Puss Bank and Park Royal Schools.

It is the fourth year of the Winter Woolies campaign, read the Macclesfield Nub News article on it last year by clicking HERE.

Last year's donations were well used, particularly in December when Macclesfield plunged into sub-zero temperatures.

Donations can be made during the shop's opening times, which are as follows:

The shop now has new opening hours which see them open six days a week.

Monday 10 til 1

Tuesday 10 til 4

Wednesday 10 til 1

Thursday 10 til 8

Friday 10 til 4

Saturday 10 til 4

And Treacle Sundays 11 til 3

They used to be shut on Mondays and Wednesdays, but have introduced new longer opening hours.
