A part-time unofficial Macclesfield Joy Division tour guide has decided to take it full-time.

Macclesfield resident Trevor Stokes has retired from his job, working almost 35 years in the fashion industry, to pursue his music-related side gig which is now his full-time focus.

The father-of-one has officially took his unofficial Joy Division tours full-time earlier this month.

"I am so lucky to have found a little business out of my love for all things lan Curtis, Joy Division and my amazing town of Macclesfield," he said.

"As of this month, I am live as a fully-fledged business with social media presence and all the investment and tools myself and my fantastic support group have invested in my little company called 'Fade 2 Grey the lan Curtis Joy Division Macclesfield Tour'.

"The legacy of lan's work, life, music & lyrics is a story I never get fed up of presenting, I am so excited to give back to my town with the support of the council, our new MP and the public I believe this is my future.

"Thank you to everyone and please, please offer any advice and support I may need it.

"Anyone interested in a totally private lan Curtis and Joy Division Macclesfield tour please get in touch."

Joy Division featured two members from Macclesfield, Stephen Morris and Ian Curtis.

The latter was the frontman for the band who released gritty, yet danceable singles Love Will Tear Us Apart and She's Lost Control

Sadly, the band recorded just two albums. Ian Curtis ended his own life in his Macclesfield home, mere hours before the band were set to tour the United States, and before the release of their second album Closer.

Trevor's tour stops at the places of Ian's - and the band's - short life.

He has seen people from Memphis to the Mediterranean come over to Macclesfield to explore Joy Division's legacy in the town.

A young Trevor even knew Ian, however he was not a friend of his, as Trevor was still a child in Ian's heyday.

Trevor even got married in the same church as Ian.

As well as music fans from around the world, Trevor is supported by his son and bride-to-be, with this update to his musical-themed endeavour.

The good news doesn't stop there for Trevor, as he hopes to establish a new annual tradition related to the post punk band.

"I am in the process of planning and organising Joy Division Day for Macclesfield every year starting with a small trial this September 7," he revealed.

"I will be hosting two tours on Joy Division Day, from 10.30am and 2.30pm, meeting at Sparrow Park.

"You can book by email [email protected] or by ringing 07446771752."

The day also includes a Joy Division tribute concert at Cinemac. Attendees encouraged to come on the walking tour and the gig in Joy Division t-shirts.
