A Macclesfield man has fundraised £2024 for a national charity, by running until he no longer could.

Jack Poyser, who has worked for an underfloor heating firm in Macclesfield for the last four years, went on a Help for Heroes charity run which concluded last month.

He decided to take part in the fundraiser as it was always a big aspiration for Jack to join the armed forces, but was not allowed due to his condition of epilepsy.

The Macclesfield resident specifically chose Help for Heroes for raise money for, as he greatly admires all the hard work the army do.

"I felt a lot of nerves at the beginning of the run," he said.

"The run was hot for quite a lot of it.

"It was a nice test of what I can do, but when you come to think what men and women have joined in the past and will continue to join the armed forces, its probably nothing compared to what they do."

On the way, Jack met some soldiers. He explained the plan of the run and they respond "I can"t believe you are doing this, no one here would be able to do this."

"It was a nice test for myself."

For his fundraiser, Jack managed to run 248 miles in 10 days.

He was initially meant to run 497, travelling from Albemarle Barracks near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to the White Cliffs of Dover.

But unfortunately, he had to cut the run short due to health reasons.

Unfortunately, he had to cut the walk short in Worcestershire, but that does not downplay the incredible achievement of Jack's athletic crowdfunder for Help for Heroes.

"I got down to Worcester unfortunately due to my epilepsy I had three seizures, and got taken to hospital," he recalls.

The premature cessation of the challenge was hard for Jack to come to terms with, but this does not take away the amazing achievement, awareness and monies raised for the national armed forces charity.

"I can do anything anyone else can do, regardless of my epilepsy," he added.

In total, superman Jack managed to raise over £2024 pounds in his run, which is over half of the total donations he was hoping for the entire race of £4000.

However, his initial target was £2000, and he only extended that when effectively met this target before he even took one step on the run.

"I hope to God none of the money is ever required for anyone, but I hope it does go somewhere and does truly help someone," he revealed.

He states when he had low motivation, what kept him going was "The messages saying what you're doing and who you're doing this for when you were coming to breaking point and almost forgetting it yourself."

"When those messages came in it really reminded you of why and what you are doing really helped.

"I can't thank people enough."

Jack finished by thanking and admires the work of the people which serve in the armed forces.

"What these brave men and women do, I couldn't talk about their experiences because never been able to experiences it myself, but to do what they done its second to none," he said.

"Over the years what these brave men and women have had to go through, is mind-blowing.

"For all the support thank you, to all the people who have served and continue to serve thank you."

Macclesfield Nub News reached out to Rhys Edwards, who is Jack's contact at the charity.

Rhys Edwards, Community Fundraising Manager at Help for Heroes, said: "Thank you Jack for pushing yourself to the limit. All the money you have raised will go to helping our Armed Forces community live well after service."
