A Hurdsfield pub is under new management, from a team experienced in operating in our town.

New landlord and landlady Gavin Wolstenholme and Melanie Wolstenholme have taken on The Flower Pot Inn.

They have also promoted Andy Holloway to manage The Flower Pot, who was a staff member from their pre-existing Macclesfield pub.

The trio had previously steered Macclesfield pub The Ivy Leaf, of 108 Ivy Road, to recent success.

They'll continue to run the Ivymeade venue, alongside their new venture.

"We've also taken on a new pub outside of Macclesfield, so we've gone from one to three pubs in a couple of weeks," said Gavin.

"We're from Wigan originally but we have loved Macclesfield since we took over The Ivy Leaf three years ago. And we're delighted to be here at The Flower Pot.

"We like the sense of community. We were accepted straight here away, and that is not always easy being a publican from out of the area.

"We're pleased to say at The Flower Pot, we now have full Sky Sports and BT Sport, on a multi-room package.

"Hopefully over the years there are plans for us to invest as well.

"We have three other staff members. My daughter Kathryn will be working here as supervisor.

"We really want to get pool teams, darts teams, both men and ladies teams here. We would want to sign-up for the winter league, so please pop down and see Andy at the pub to register your interest."

The Flower Pot Inn has just created a Facebook page, for punters to keep up to speed with the improvements to the pub.

Gavin and Melanie's company, Premier Pubs Ltd, prides themselves on helping others.

"As a company, we focus on community, charity and getting involved locally," added Gavin.

"Just over a year ago we won a British Institute of Innkeeping Heart of the Community Award. We did fundraising at The Ivy Leaf to pay for a community defibrillator, and we want to bring some of that spirit here.

"We choose a charity every year, and this year it is North West Air Ambulance. And we do a lot of events to support them. Before that we did East Cheshire Hospice.

"Since we took over The Ivy Leaf in October 2019 we've raised over £9000 for charity.

"Our mission statement is 'great pubs at the heart of the community', and that's what we want to do with The Flower Pot. We want to be a real community hub."

Any community groups who want to get in touch with the pub and to use their function room can pop-in or email [email protected].

The Flower Pot Inn is located on 110 Hurdsfield Road, Macclesfield, SK10 2PY.

The pub is open from 12 noon every day of the week. Monday to Thursday and Sunday will see the bar close at midnight. But the pub will remain open to 1am on Friday and Saturday.

Harry Melling will remain manager of The Ivy Leaf, while Gavin and Mel get The Flower Pot Hurdsfield up and running.
