Macclesfield: Mill Street bar closes after serving children alcohol
A bar in Macclesfield that served alcohol to under 19s has closed voluntarily.
Capri Bar Lounge, which was caught serving underage teenagers, has been a fixture of our town since 2014.
The forced closure comes after an intervention from Macclesfield Police officers.
In a statement, Cheshire Police said: "Officers from Macclesfield South Beat Team visited Capri Di Lounge in Macclesfield following reports of underage drinking."
"The license holder met with officers and agreed to keep the bar closed while they work with the police licensing team."
Capri Bar Lounge have been contacted for comment.
Sergeant Matt Bassirat said: "We were able to meet with the licensee and constructively discuss issues that have been raised to us at the bar.
"Underage drinking can cause health risks in young people and also could lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour in the town.
"I look forward to working with the licensee to ensure the correct standards are upheld and I have no doubt that this will have a positive impact in the area."
It is not known when the bar will open their doors once more.
According to Drinkaware, 2018 figures suggest over two-fifths (44%) aged 11-15 in England have drunk alcohol.
