A Macclesfield woman has taken a 'step out of her comfort zone' and entered a beauty pageant.

Kia Bettany will compete in Miss Swimsuit UK 2026.

It marks a huge step for the 23-year-old, who has previously suffered with bullying and an eating disorder.

"I have never done anything like this before," she said.

"For me, this journey is about so much more than a pageant.

"It's about self-growth, confidence, and empowerment – proving that you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself and face your fears head-on."

Macclesfield-born-and-bred Kia was bullied during her schooldays, resulting in low self-esteem.

She also suffered with body image confidence and an eating disorder.

By taking part in Miss Swimsuit UK, she is hoping to inspire others to push themselves and explore fresh challenges.

She said: "I'm doing this to inspire other women to push past their comfort zones, to embrace who they are, and to know that confidence comes from courage — not perfection.

"Let's show others that confidence is contagious and that stepping outside your comfort zone can change your life.

"This experience is also a personal milestone in my recovery journey from body confidence struggles and eating disorders.

"It's a reminder that healing is possible, and you can learn to love and celebrate your body for all it does for you."
