Multiple bus routes which were set to get the chop have been rescued by rival operators.

Last February, Arriva announced the closure of their Macclesfield depot. This meant over 13 Cheshire East bus including six Macclesfield routes were cut.

However, more have now been saved from an uncertain future.

D&G Buses and High Peak Buses have announced they are taking and amending services in Macclesfield to serve the ex-Arriva areas of Moss Rose and Upton Priory.

The first bus is the 14, 14A Macclesfield - Moss Rose - Langley.

This service will be operated by High Peak Buses, who already run services to Macclesfield like the No. 60 from Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Buses will run twice an hour Monday to Saturday between Macclesfield and Moss Rose continuing to Langley every two hours.

The bus won't run on a Sunday.

A Macclesfield Forest resident, while delighted to see the service return in some form, told this anonymously to Macclesfield Nub News "The 14/14A has a very strange timetable but has to be to make it work.

"Sadly Langley has an overall reduction in services from hourly to two hourly to allow Moss Rose to be served frequently."

The other bus will be taken on by D&G Buses, who have already taken on the No. 10 Macclesfield to Bollington bus, and offer a similar service to the cut Macclesfield No. 38 bus to Crewe.

D&G will now take on the 19, 19A Macclesfield - Upton Priory - Prestbury / Whirley Barn route.

Buses will run every hour Monday to Saturday between Macclesfield and Upton Priory, continuing to Whirley Barn or Prestbury every two hours.

It means Prestbury and Whirley Barn will not have direct bus link. There will also be no service on a Sunday here.

Services in Upton Priory about half (2 Arriva vs 1 D&G) what they are today, but it is better than the alternative future of nothing that was on the cards mere days ago.

It has been 34 days since the cuts were announced, with the majority of Macclesfield routes being saved by other companies. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

However, not all threatened bus routes have found a new home, as the Arriva No. 3 bus to the Weston doesn't look like it is getting picked up with the last Arriva bus setting off this month.
