Macclesfield: Over £3k raised as Rossendale Trust makes half-marathon debut
Staff at local charity, The Rossendale Trust, took to the streets of London on Sunday 2nd April to support tenant, Lucie Bevan at the London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM).
This is the first time that the organisers of this prestigious event have invited entries from wheelchair users.
So once staff at the Trust became aware of this, they knew straight away that Lucie would love to be involved. And as a bonus, have raised thousands for the charity.
Lucie has complex care needs and loves to experience extremes of movement and noise.
Nici Rayner, Group Leader at the Trust explained: "Lucie relishes being outdoors, feeling the wind on her face, encountering the thrill of race day with the crowds cheering, the music playing and all the movement and bumps that comes from being propelled along in her wheelchair".
"Participating in this London event guarantees Lucie an exhilarating and unforgettable experience."
In the past staff at the Trust have supported tenants to complete 10k runs including the Great Manchester 10k and Run Macc Fest events but this will be the first time any tenant has ever taken part in a half marathon (13.1094 miles).
The LLHM event sees runners navigating an iconic route of 13.1 miles through London landmarks.
Lucie was supported by Operations Manager, David Clifford and PR and Fundraising Officer, Susanne Tidswell.
Together, they have helped raise over £3000 for The Rossendale Trust, with a chance for you to still donate on this link.
The trio spent weeks training for the big day and recently took part in an organised 10k race at Tatton park as well as undertaking longer runs along the Middlewood Way.
Whilst David has supported Lucie in her previous races, this was the first time Susanne had accompanied her.
"I have had to adjust my style of running to participate with Lucie," he said.
"Lucie thoroughly enjoys our training runs and smiles all the way round. I cannot wait to be part of Lucie's team in London, it's going to be a very memorable day for us all."
Money raised is going to support a project to transform an external building, including the addition of an accessible toilet, and pond and garden areas located at Rossendale Hall which are used by tenants and people attending the Trust's day services and will mean that even more people can access activities at the Trust.
The Rossendale Trust residents are keen to get involved with activities such as this, in part thanks to the Oakwood programme which you can read more about HERE.
