MACCLESFIELD: More tickets have been released for a Shakespearean-themed drag event this weekend.

A Midsummer Night's Queen is a drag queen cabaret and catwalk competition inspired by William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

It will start at 8pm on Saturday July 31, at Mash Guru, located on 5 Back Wallgate.

The play, which first premiered in 1605, has been the inspiration for this event which was initially meant to take place for Barnaby Bright in June, but the delay of COVID-19 restrictions lifting until July 19 scuppered those plans.

But with no restrictions, the Macclesfield event organisers can now sell more tickets to the Mash Guru drag show.

The event will provide a safe space for everyone to come together and celebrate the art of drag queens, whether you want to participate or simply watch.

There will be a well-lit dressing room area upstairs at Mash, with rails of clothes, wigs, jewellery and shoes in the frocks and locks area.

The aim is to invite guests who are new to drag to dress up and gain expert advice from the more experienced queens.

The host for the evening will be accomplished drag queen Nana Nancy, who will compere the evening with her humour as the queens sashay down the catwalk lip-synching, dancing or singing encouraged to show their talents.

But there will be prizes for the Macclesfield Drag Queen Cabaret and Catwalk Competition, with the lucky winner crowned with a 'Bespoke Tiara'.

All Prizes for the winner of the event are:

  1. An overnight stay at the amazing Hotel Brooklyn in Manchester city centre the newest venue in the Bespoke portfolio. It's round the corner from the Palace Theatre, close to China Town, Canal St and the Village.
  1. A gorgeous tiara from Lady Sharons collection, the Zebra Partnership award winning photographer in residence will do a photoshoot in the hotel as a keepsake.

After the event, there will be a DJ to keep the party going until 12:30am, which is last orders for the Macclesfield venue.

The additional tickets for participants and audience on 31 July are now available, for the same price as before, £10 in advance.

Macclesfield drag fans can book here.

There may be tickets available on the day, depending on whether it sells out or not over the next few days. If they do not, online tickets available until 6pm Friday July 30.
